On October 2nd at the Lennox Contemporary gallery at Queen and Ossington, we are presenting to the world the prototype we created while we were at the CFC Media Lab.
greenwave is a green application for the Facebook platform. Designed for people who care about the environment and are ready to make a change in their lifestyles, greenwave shows its users that their environmentally friendly actions are making a difference and how simple changes to their lifestyle can have a positive and lasting impact on the environment.
Users form teams with their Facebook friends and propose taking on together a range of green challenges. greenwave’s week long challenges are designed to stretch the user beyond their usual comfort zone but not to be so difficult that they discourage them from actually participating. Geared toward reducing the consumption of energy and water and the production of waste, challenges are suitable for both house and apartment dwellers. They range from taking home fewer plastic bags, to leaving excess packaging at the store, to turning off more lights and electricity hogging equipment, and hanging up the keys to the car.
Recognizing that commitment and support is key to successful and lasting lifestyle changes, greenwave takes advantage of the social and interactive nature of the Facebook platform by providing a forum for users and their friends to publicly declare their intention to try to change. They can share tips and tricks for successfully completing challenges and to cheer each other on as they a greener lifestyle.
While October 2nd is the Industry event, October 4th is Scotiabank Nuit Blanche in Toronto and the streets will be crawling with art lovers taking advantage of gallery doors that stay open from 7pm to 7am. Come join us on October 4th at the Lennox Contemporary gallery at Queen and Ossington - the event is open everyone.
